Decorations- Making it Cozy
As if the perfect bedding wasn’t enough, we thoroughly decorated our dorm room to make it seem like an actual room. Picture frames and bulletin boards made up the majority of our dorm room decorations. We also had some artsy photos that my roommate had taken. Little things like curtains made it seem like an actual room. We got really cheap ones at Bed, Bath & Beyond that we just tossed at the end of the year. Our floors were some gross old tile so we got some rugs to cover that up. I like to make stuff… like jewelry and knitted things so we also got this table for crafting, it folded up and slipped right under the bed. Urban Outfitters has great photo albums and wall art for good prices that add character.
Hollie: The decorating part is so much fun! Picture frames definitely make a huge difference! And Target is a great place to go for cheap frames, rugs, and decorations too… My room mate and I bought a roll of ribbon (that matched our sheets) to tie back the curtains and let light into the room. And we found that it’s best to get everything BIG! Little tiny picture frames look even smaller up on a huge white wall, so if you go a little bigger with everything, it feels a little homier. My freshman year, my room mate and I bought an extra bed sheet (one of those $5 ones!) and cut it up so we could cover our bulletin boards. It was an orange paisley pattern, so we crisscrossed white ribbon across it and then slid pictures under the ribbons. We also wrote a few of our favorite Bible verses on cardstock and then framed each one with cute patterned paper. We hung them over our sink area and on the blank wall over the closet so we could wake up to it each morning!
Fiona: We ordered floor chairs & curtains from Pottery Barn Kids. Go to art.com or allposters.com- they have a ton of posters, photos, & other wall art in diff sizes. Also try hobby lobby for lamps, clocks or nicer looking decorations at good prices. Container Store has strips of double sided wall tape that’s removable, just put a long strip on the wall & stick on photos of u & ur friends- it doesn’t take the paint off the walls or mess up ur pictures, so u can change/update them all the time!
Rae: That tape sounds cool, I have all mine on a bulletin board, but they’re getting messy and a bit outta date. But on another note, I love having fresh flowers in my room, but since they’re a bit pricey I went out and found some really bright ones from Crate and Barrel. They look real and are low maintenance and add some life to my room. I also really like the beach so I found some fake starfish and hung them above my mirror to give it some spunk. Those little touches make it more comfortable to live and hangout in.
