Taking the First Step
Expectations are huge when you first step on your new college campus. Your parents will tell you this is going to be the greatest time of your life. Your mom will miss you terribly. Your dad will use his old college stories as a bridge to your feelings. But the reality is you’re about to become a different person. You’re supposed to. Make the most of it.
College is more than world politics or literature. It’s a time when you learn about yourself. Enjoy the journey.
Here’s a little advice:
- Go to class.
- Read your textbook.
- Don’t sweat the small stuff with the roommate. Share your things and clean up after yourself.
- Don’t be too anxious to find a boyfriend. Get to know yourself and your surroundings first.
- Make friends.
- No one knows your high school story. This can make it easier or harder, but that’s the deal.
- This is your experience not anyone else’s.
