Greek & Unique Coming Soon!
March 18, 2012
-ut

For years, sororities and fraternities at UT have needed a hometown hub for all the fun favors marked with their letters. Most of us have simply resorted to designing and producing everything themselves. Yes, this creativity and design is super fun, but Greek & Unique is here to lighten the load! We know you love your little, but not enough to painstakingly hand paint a paddle, t-shirt and jewelry box. While each house will still be able to design their own gear, Greek & Unique is looking to provide a helping hand when stocking up for bid day and initiation gifts. Owner, Lisa Lewis, has heard your cries and is planning to open this brand new new boutique on North Lamar this April. The future home of Greek & Unique will be at 4107 Marathon, right across from Central Market on North Lamar. Don’t miss the store opening in mid-April—these fabulous items are sure to go fast!
If you have any questions about the store or suggestions of items you’d like to see there, email Lisa Lewis at lisa@greekandunique.net. We’ll let you know when the store officially opens!

Greek Treats
January 20, 2012
-smu,

In our opinion, it’s never too early to start a Greek t-shirt collection. So Bid Day was only a few days ago, and you’re still dying to load up on your new sorority letters? Congratulations, you’re normal. And can we just say we love the enthusiasm? Two stores that guarantee a great selection of shirts are McCartney’s University Spirit and Brown Bag.
McCartney’s is conveniently situated next to SMU’s campus on Hillcrest, making a shopping trip between classes a possibility. We love that you can customize any fleece, rugby shirt or trinket your heart desires at this store.
Even though you may live in Dallas, hopping on the TRE (read: Trinity River Express) to Fort Worth is nothing compared to the wonders you’ll find at Brown Bag. A Fort Worth institution for the last thirty years, this store specializes in hand-painted items, stitched shirts and sweatshirts and hundreds of other cute must-haves.
Pics & Gifts
January 5, 2012
-baylor,

As the rest of campus adjusts to their new class schedules, Baylor sorority girls are anxiously awaiting the newest additions to their families. This, of course, means gifts, gifts and more gifts—and you thought Christmas was over! Fortunately for all of the new pledges out there, Waco is home to Pics & Gifts, a veritable gifting paradise. Shop monogrammed towels, jackets, tote bags and slippers. Recently their sterling silver rings, bracelets and jewelry boxes have become a Baylor gifting fave.
If you’re having trouble narrowing down your purchase—a natural dilemma at Pics & Gifts—the store offers plenty of gift packages to make spoiling your new sisters a breeze. To top it off, the store offers gift wrap and campus delivery, making bid day that much more enjoyable.
Fright Night
October 26, 2011
-baylor,

As a kid, Halloween was the holy grail of all holidays (Christmas excluded, of course). You got to dress up like your favorite super hero or princess, prance around with your friends all night and come home with enough candy to feed a small army. Now, exit people giving you free candy for looking adorable; enter Zombies, haunted houses and Fright Night.
The ladies and gents from Phi Gamma Delta and Delta Delta Delta have joined forces again for Baylor’s largest student run event: a haunted house at Eastland Lakes Clubhouse whose proceeds will benefit the YoungLife of Waco. This year’s Fright Night starts on Thursday, October 27 and runs through Saturday, October 29. Baylor students, faculty and staff gain free entrance with their Baylor ID’s. A free shuttle service to the haunted house will run from Penland Tennis Courts from 7:45pm to 11:00pm each evening of the event. For more info, check out Fright Night’s Facebook.
Gearing Up for the TX/OU Game
October 3, 2011
-ut,

As we get closer to one of the biggest weekends of the year for Greek students at UT, everybody is dusting off their paintbrushes in anticipation of the UT vs. OU football game in Dallas. The Van Gogh’s of the student community are revealed through the long-standing University of Texas tradition of presenting your date with a fully-loaded, decorated cooler. Stocked with all of his favorite drinks and goodies, girls paint and embellish soft and hard coolers alike in support of the Sooner’s demise. Your basic hard-top cooler is the perfect canvas for this tradition, but if you’re hoping to preserve the magic for seasons to come, try Jon Hart’s softer version. This Polar Bear cooler is another great option, available in two different sizes.

While Hobby Lobby is an obvious choice for art supplies, there are a couple of stores closer to West Campus. One option is the Art Store at the Co-Op, conveniently located on the drag. This often overlooked store is sympathetic to the UT student’s tailgating plight and offers discounts on paint pens leading up to the OU game. Another option, within walking distance of Hardin House, is Asel’s Art Supply on MLK—hurry though, because supplies are running out fast!

Don’t fret, artistically challenged tailgaters: if you can provide the cooler, you can usually pawn off the decorating job to a fellow student for a few extra dollars.
Lilly Goes Greek
September 14, 2011
-smu,

In the spring of 2011 the Greek community was highly anticipating Lilly Pulitzer’s new sorority prints available for: Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Phi, Chi Omega, Delta Gamma, Delta Zeta, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Delta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Delta Delta Delta.

Now they’re craving Lilly’s recently-debuted fall collection, revealed on the Lilly’s Facebook page, it includes a tote, carry-on bag, makeup bag, scarf, pencil case and a new wallet style. These covetable items are pretty, practical and selling out fast. They make great gifts for friends, bigs and littles, or your sorority sisters! They’re a functional, fashionable way to sport your letters around campus. As if we needed any more of a reason to love Lilly. Available at NorthPark Center.
Recruitment Wardrobe: TCU Edition
July 18, 2011
-tcu,

Come mid-July, there’s a lot on your mind. Making sure you have everything you need for your dorm room, wondering if you’ll get along with your new roommate, but most of all, you’re probably stressed about what in the world you’re going to wear during Panhellenic Recruitment.
We’ve got to hand it to you–it’s tricky. You want to be confident and comfortable, and while you want to stand out to the different houses, you certainly don’t want to stand out in a bad way. Well, stick with us and you’ll do just fine.
Day 1: Panhellenic t-shirt (provided) + khaki or other casual shorts and comfortable shoes.

Khaki’s fine, but at TCU, you can make more of a style statement. Go for shorts with a bold print, like these from J.Crew.
Comfortable shoes are key. We cannot stress this enough. You will be walking from house to house, and once inside, you’ll be standing. How can you possibly be at your most fabulous with aching feet? Try a neutral gladiator sandal like this one from Steve Madden.
Day 2: Casual sundress or skirt-and-blouse combo and comfortable shoes.

On day 2, casual-cute is the name of the game. Don’t overdo the dressiness; there’s still plenty of time for that later in the week. Try a breezy dress in a simple shape with a bold pattern or color to keep it interesting. This Amanda Uprichard number is perfect, paired with another chic pair of flat sandals by Dolce Vita.
Day 3: A dressier dress or skirt/blouse combo and heels.

Today we’re stepping it up a notch. Think what you might wear to a girls’ luncheon. This floral print dress by Shoshanna is great because it’s a step up on the dressiness scale, but still light enough to keep you from drowning in your own sweat as you walk from house to house. As for shoes, while you want to wear a heel, keep it sensible. You’ll still be walking and standing just as much as you did on the previous days, so a wedge is a good option.
Day 4: Pref Night: Cocktail attire.

Most girls are going to end up wearing LBDs. But you’re not most girls. Make a statement in a colored frock like this one by Halston Heritage. Pair it with a neutral heel and simple jewelry. Let the dress do the talking.
Day 5: Bid Day

You’ve made it! Today’s the day when you’ll find out which house you’ll call home and celebrate with all your new sisters. Comfort is the name of the game, so think casual. You’ll be required to wear a plain white tee (think American Apparel), and go with jeans or shorts and comfy shoes.
