As college girls—or any girl with a heartbeat, really—we often catch ourselves fantasizing about elegant trips to Paris, filled with chic boutiques and wine sipping on the Seine.  A steamy European man may, or may not, make an appearance. We digress.  The reality? Our full time job—school—keeps our feet firmly planted in the states, at least for a while.  Yves Delorme on South University seems to be the next best thing.  The store carries fine European linens and home and bath accessories, so you can bring a little bit of the Parisian charm home with you.

Riley, the furry store pup, is the perfect greeter.  Plus, everybody has a dog in Paris! Being a stone’s throw from campus, or as they say in France, “coin de la rue,” you will have no problem finding yourself in your own whimsical Parisian setting. Until then, we’ll have to settle for macaroons from Whole Foods and sweet dreams in our Yves Delorme-covered beds. Au revoir!

You may already have a lock on all the cutesie fun stuff for your dorm room, but what about the real essentials–you know, the things you’ll actually need to survive dorm life? Here’s a must-have list from a UT grad who’s seen and done it all:

Under-bed storage is key in a 20′ x 10′ room (for two). These bed risers from Target or Bed, Bath & Beyond are the best $10 investment you can make to increase your storage space. Tip: You might need a slightly longer bed skirt to cover these rather unsightly necessities.

Now that you’ve got some extra room, it’s time to utilize it to the max. Under the bed is by far the best place to store all those things you just had to bring to college, but don’t use every day…like your vast handbag collection. Put them out of sight with sleek stacking drawers from The Container Store.

The best way to keep food in your room without looking like the fat kid? Keep it organized and tidy. The elfa compact fridge cart has drawers for food storage and a surface for a TV or mini-fridge on top.

Looking back on my fabulous freshman experience, I wish I’d had more chic bedding and accessories in my dorm room. I’d like to share my wonderful finds for girls about to start their own four-year (sometimes a few more—no big) journey.

Bedding:

One of the best ways to decorate your room is to coordinate bedding with your roommate. You can design and customize your own bedding at PB Teen. Choose from a selection of duvet covers, sheet sets, quilts, decorative pillows and more to create the bedding of your choice.

Organization:

If you think you can easily cram everything you need or want into your room, sorry, it’s not going to happen. That’s why one of my favorite finds is this organizer from PB Teen. It fits of your essentials like hair drier, flat iron and products perfectly, allowing you to save serious space on your desk or makeup stand.

These pop-up paisley storage bins are a must-have! With bright paisley prints, these collapsible bins are perfect for girls looking to add a punch of color while also saving space. They come in purple, navy, pink and light blue.

Lighting:

As for lighting, check out  this lamp at Target. With a black-and-white print shade, this modern lamp coordinates with any décor and is perfect to have at your bedside or on your desk.

Accessories:

A chic magnetic board is the perfect way to control your clutter and allows you to keep track of your likes, to-do’s and photos.  Post notes for your roommate or photos with the fab magnets included. I’m mildly obsessed with this one, but there are a few adorable patterns to choose from.

These sassy pillows are excellent reminders for incoming freshman. It’s your first time to live on your own and not have mom around nagging you about the little things in life. You’ll find various phrases such as “Clean Your Room,” “No Whining,” “Go To The Gym” (a reminder to stave off the well-known urban legend of the “freshman 15”) and many more. These fun pillows will make your friends laugh and add some spunk to your space.
