Steer clear of those chain Italian restaurants—you know the one’s we’re talking about—and hightail it to Bryan’s newest authentic Italian venture, Amico Nave Ristorante. This family-run restaurant located on Villa Maria has a menu stocked with tasty Italian favorites, a great ambiance for a date or a relaxing girls’ night out and is a short drive from campus. We recommend starting with the blue cheese flatbread and finishing with the ricotta cheesecake!

Green and Gold
September 18, 2012
-baylor,

The tailgates, mixers, cookouts and rivalries are back. Football season has arrived at Baylor, so it’s time to pull out the green and gold in your closet. But instead of sporting that basic Baylor t-shirt, we have some thoughts on stylish and spirited outfits that can transition from game day to date night. When shopping at your favorite store for new pieces—we like Prefontaine, Roots and Spice Village—try to buy some signature items that can be mixed and matched for a game and a night out!

Uncorked
May 4, 2012
-am,

A fabulous girl like yourself can only take so many college parties where the cocktail of the evening is “PBR.” If you’re looking to put some class into your evening plans, head to Uncorked in downtown Bryan at Main and W. 26th. Doubling as a wine bar and restaurant, you and your guests can enjoy tasty pizza, dessert and—of course—a delicious glass of wine. The live music goes well with good company and the couches and outside seating make for a warm and friendly atmosphere. Make sure to stop by on Tuesday nights for Uncorked’s Pizza Special where you can snag an entire pizza and a glass of wine for only $10.
Draw, Dance, Dine. Repeat.

-am,

If downtown Bryan is home to a multitude of culture and life around A&M, then The Village is its main hub. Part café, part art gallery, part music venue, The Village is full of life, color and great sandwiches. Supporting every local specialty it can, from food and coffee to local musicians, it’s a feel-good place to grab something to eat when the sun is up, and a choice party spot when the stars come out. There’s live music and talent every evening after 5pm and they even offer salsa lessons on Wednesdays!
Savory Stone
March 16, 2012
-tcu,

It’s time to put the cab money in the piggy bank, ladies. We’ve found you a contemporary American eatery that successfully moonlights as a club and a bar. It seems difficult to imagine how one would fit all of this into one location, but Brownstone has managed to perfect the “Girls’ Night Out” trifecta. Start the evening off with happy hour from 4pm-7pm Tuesday thru Friday and delicious American cuisine with a twist—we recommend the BBQ pork sliders and bacon cheddar sea scallops, with a side of waffle fries of course. Then move on over to the spacious lounge area—HD televisions included—and take advantage of reverse happy hour from 9pm until close Tuesdays thru Thursdays. The extensive bar menu is stocked with imaginative libations like the blueberry pomegranate martini and ginger lemon drops. If you feel like dancing—who doesn’t after a few martinis—stop in on Friday and Saturday nights for Beats & Eats from 10pm-2am where you’ll find a live DJ, a photo booth and even more drink specials. Dinner, drinks, dancing and a great outdoor patio? Looks like we know what we’re doing this weekend.
What Happens at The Usual Stays at The Usual
February 27, 2012
-tcu,

With a modern twist and refined cocktails, The Usual in Fort Worth is anything but. You can find this hot spot down Magnolia near Yucatan Taco Stand and Fort Worth’s famous Spiral Diner. An unassuming exterior quickly gives way to the modern vibes and good times you’ll find inside. The bartenders here are truly artists (ask for Jason) and take pride in their “unusual” drink menu featuring favorites like the Old Fashioned mixed with inventive concoctions like “Bee’s Knees” (gin, honey, lemon) and “Don’t Ask. Don’t Tell” (vodka, akvavit, lime, lavender, ginger beer). The chill atmosphere and exceptional bartenders make this a choice hangout not only for TCU students, but the young crowd in Cowtown.
Mambo in Bryan for NYE
December 26, 2011
-am,

We all know that learning the Texas two-step is a rite of passage in this state (and an unofficial requirement for entrance to Aggieland), but if you’re sticking around College Station for New Year’s Eve, we recommend giving the mambo a little spin. Mambo’s Salsa Dancing is hosting a party on New Year’s Eve at The Village in downtown Bryan off W. 26th Street from 10pm-2am for only $5. What’s that you say? No idea how to salsa? Join the club! The party starts off with an intro to salsa lesson, and they’ll be passing out party favors and noisemakers all night long—there’s even a champagne toast at midnight. So bust out those dancing shoes (as if we had to tell you) and RSVP here!
New Austin City Limits Live Studio at the W Hotel
September 23, 2011
-ut,

This past week in Austin, everybody was abuzz about the Austin City Limits Music Festival at Zilker Park. A little known fact about the music monstrosity is that it was originally a live music television series filmed in front of an audience. To recapture the original, they opened the doors to a new state-of-the-art home at The Moody Theater in the W Hotel. Cool abounds at the new 2nd street location, one of our favorite areas for shopping and dining. Inside Moody Theater (we snagged two tickets to Coldplay last weekend), history lines the walls with memorabilia from past concerts, making for an intimate concert experience; there was not a bad seat in the house.

A visit to The Moody Theater should be at the top of every Austinite’s to-do list. Not only is it an alternative to 6th Street, but this establishment is what made Austin known as the “Live Music Capital of the World.” Check out the ACL Live website for concert listings, or follow ACL Live’s blog for announcements on ticket giveaways to the TV show tapings—usually a week before the show. Here are a few shows already on the calendar:
Sunday, October 9—B.B. King
Thursday, November 10—Bob Schneider
Tuesday, November 15—Aretha Franklin
Saturday, November 19—Ghostland Observatory
Thursday, December 1—Wilco
Saturday, December 17—Robert Earl Keen
Insider Tip: To increase your chances of winning, don’t just enter your own name. They give away tickets in pairs, so enter the name of a friend as well. Or anybody else who you know would definitely bring you if they won!
