TCU’s honor society, Phi Upsilon Omicron, and vintage boutique Bess & Evie’s put on a fashion show benefiting the YWCA last week.  Those attending the event donated gently used clothing to YWCA’s retail shop to support families in the Fort Worth area.  Not only was the event for a great cause, but the outfits Bess & Evie’s put together were so lovely!  Snag your own vintage find at Bess & Evie’s on Foch.

As a kid, Halloween was the holy grail of all holidays (Christmas excluded, of course).  You got to dress up like your favorite super hero or princess, prance around with your friends all night and come home with enough candy to feed a small army.  Now, exit people giving you free candy for looking adorable; enter Zombies, haunted houses and Fright Night.

The ladies and gents from Phi Gamma Delta and Delta Delta Delta have joined forces again for Baylor’s largest student run event: a haunted house at Eastland Lakes Clubhouse whose proceeds will benefit the YoungLife of Waco.  This year’s Fright Night starts on Thursday, October 27 and runs through Saturday, October 29.  Baylor students, faculty and staff gain free entrance with their Baylor ID’s.  A free shuttle service to the haunted house will run from Penland Tennis Courts from 7:45pm to 11:00pm each evening of the event.  For more info, check out Fright Night’s Facebook.

We’re officially halfway through the semester, and according to ShopAcrossTexas.com by-laws it’s time to spoil yourself.  As therapeutic as a shopping spree feels, we bet the lingering effects on your bank account aren’t worth it.  Our solution?  The Hip Humanitarian Project.   This project offers gently-used, designer brands for prices that are (almost) too good to be true.  Read: major discount. From meager beginnings as a used clothing sale from her sorority’s living room, the brains behind this project, Hayley Swindell, has watched her efforts bloom into a full-blown stall at First Thursdays on South Congress.

Hayley, like any sensible, fashionable woman, knew there was a better use for the unused designer clothing collecting dust in her sorority sisters’ closets.  In efforts to raise money for her sorority’s philanthropy, Building Tomorrow, Hayley asked friends to take the time to clean out their closets and donate any gently-used clothing towards a sale whose profits would be donated to Building Tomorrow.  During the first lunch hour alone, she was able to raise $600 for her cause—she knew she was onto something.

Due to the success she found in the spring, Hayley has continued her project this fall.  In September she made the move to a stall at First Thursdays on South Congress, where you will be able to find her every month.  The next First Thursday is scheduled for November 3^rd.  In the meantime, you can find her in the Kappa Kappa Gamma living room next Thursday on October 27 from 11am to 2pm with designer duds and accessories at great prices.  For more info and updates on the Hip Humanitarian Project, follow her blog—we hear Kendra Scott just made a big donation of fun fall jewelry!
