The Galleria of Spas
May 7, 2013
-am

Don’t let the stress of last-minute projects and final exams follow you into your summer vacation. Properly unwind before relaxing for the next few months by spending a few hours at Galleria Day Spa in Bryan for some much needed pampering. Keep it small with a pedicure, or indulge in a Swedish massage, grab a cup of hot tea, sit back, relax and let the stress melt away.

Cake Junkie
March 14, 2013
-am,

We follow the Cake Junkie mobile bakery around town the same way we chased the ice cream truck as kids—their jumbo cupcakes are that good. If you can’t spot the truck around town when you’re craving flavors like White Almond, Dreamsicle and Pink Champagne, you can check out their storefront location in downtown Bryan.
Made From Scratch at Lula Jane’s
February 22, 2013
-baylor,

Break the collegiate processed food cycle and head to Waco’s newest bakery, Lula Jane’s, for organic treats. The bakery/café combo has caught the Baylor population’s attention with its made-from-scratch baked goods and backyard vegetable, herb and flower garden. We’re adding Lula Jane’s to our list of study spots, and can’t wait to catch up with friends over a slice of fudge pie and a 50 cent cup of joe.
The Big D Museum Circuit
February 7, 2013
-smu,

Now that venturing outside your dorm room doesn’t require a parka, we suggest hitting up one of Dallas’ top-notch museums as a way to fill your weekend calendar.
The Dallas Museum of Art offers free general admission as of January 21, and features a variety of art from ancient cultural to modern American. Be sure to visit the on-site café, DMA Café, for exhibition-influenced dishes and the Museum Store for truly unique gifts you won’t find anywhere else. Bonus: while you’re in the area, pop across the street to visit the Nasher Sculpture Center and The Crow Collection of Asian Art.
If history is your thing, try The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, which chronicles the assassination and legacy of America’s 35th President, John F. Kennedy. It was a pivotal moment in our nation’s history, and a must-see while in Dallas.
Lastly, we recommend the brand new Perot Museum of Nature and Science! Dedicated to science, math and technology, this museum offers many interactive exhibits. Definitely keep this in mind when your parents come to visit.
Cheers to Vino at Winslow’s
February 5, 2013
-tcu,

Winslow’s on Camp Bowie is now our designated wine café, named after the owners’ beloved pup, Winslow. The intimate venue is the perfect spot to enjoy a nice dinner followed by a glass of wine—or two—with your good friends. Feel free to curl up in a blanket on the more chilly evenings, and enjoy an impressive wine list—over 37 are available by the glass.
Spotlight: Dallas Arboretum
December 28, 2012
-smu,

After what probably feels like weeks hunched over your laptop in a dark library, a huge breath of fresh air—literally—is just what the doctor ordered. There’s no better place to relax and refresh your mind than an afternoon at the Dallas Arboretum. The scenery is a welcome break on the eyes, and they’ve extended Dale Chihuly’s outdoor art exhibit through December 31!
Fiesta in the Stockyards
October 19, 2012
-tcu,

El Rancho Grande—located on Main Street in the Stockyards—is one of Fort Worth’s true Tex Mex restaurants. The food is delicious, the location is fun, and the service is great. Open since 1967, the food knowledge in this restaurant spans three generations. It is arguably one of our favorite spots to sip on Texas-sized margs and catch up with friends—the fajitas and tamales are also a must!
The Pumpkin Patch
October 14, 2012
-baylor,

Pumpkins and fall are synonymous, so grab that Pumpkin Spice Latte, throw on a cute sweater and head out to the pumpkin patch at Central Christian Church. Even if you’re not planning on carving a pumpkin to adorn your dorm room—a nice paint job looks just as cool, in our opinion—a visit to the pumpkin patch would be a great backdrop for a photo to send home to Mom.

The Fall Life of Baylor University
October 8, 2012
-baylor,

When we’re not gearing up for a big football game, we Baylor students love to catch a movie at Starplex Cinemas. With your Baylor Student ID, a movie ticket is only $5, making this a fun and cheap Friday night option. We recently caught “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” on the big screen, and the lovely Jennifer Garner and fall scenery were absolutely wardrobe-inspiring! Here are some fun examples of how to “fall” into autumn in a bold, yet sophisticated way with two of the season’s hottest shades: mustard yellow and burgundy.

Food & Friends
October 4, 2012
-smu,

Since our meals are usually confined to campus during the week, we like to explore the culinary side of Dallas as much as we can on the weekends. These are just a few of our favorite spots to refuel with friends during down time:
First stop: Breakfast! Before you head to your last round of classes on Friday, take your girls to The Dream Café, located in Uptown. Make sure to try their famous “Cloud Cakes,” fluffy ricotta pancakes doused in fresh strawberries, crème fraiche, and powdered sugar. How can we resist?!
Before you hit up the Boulevard for some pre-football fun, consider grabbing a bite at the East Hampton Sandwich Co. Having just opened a few days ago, they are as good as new—literally! Their creations range from Pulled Roast Chicken to Lobster rolls, all of which are hormone- and nitrate-free. Located in Snider Plaza, they are a quick and easy stop before heading to campus.
Dine with the socialites of Dallas at the Village Marquee Grill & Bar in Highland Park Village. Perfect for a Girl’s Night Out (or a date), this restaurant is a definite step up from the casual cafeteria food and it’s just a short drive from campus down Mockingbird.
