Texas gals know their statement jewelry, so we’re more than on top the resurgence of statement necklaces. These bold baubles are a great way to add color to an ordinary outfit. Wear it over a buttoned up collar to be on the forefront of this trend. We can’t get enough of this look, and are spying it all over campus! Fashion tip: pair a statement necklace with an otherwise minimal look to avoid looking too be-jeweled; we’ll leave that to Lady Gaga. Here are a few options from one of our favorite Texans, Kendra Scott:

Denim Daze
April 13, 2012
-baylor,

Light denim isn’t just for the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air anymore. Not that we weren’t crazy about the acid wash look back in the day, but let’s be honest: we were ten. The familiar fabric is popping up in new and interesting ways in the form of jackets, shirts and vests. Mix and match your denim or pair it with pops of animal print for a surefire standout look. We’ve been spotting this trend all over campus, and we haven’t seen a bad combo yet! Stock up on denim at Spice Village and Roots in Waco.

Shades of Spring

The Texas sun is always shining bright—even in the dead of winter—but now that spring has arrived, with summer fast on its heels, you’ll need a pair of fabulous shades to block the rays. Whether you’re walking on campus or lounging by the pool, the perfect sunglasses are a must. Don’t just settle for any old rims—take the time to find the shape and size that are best for you! Sunglasses aren’t meant for every face shape, so it’s important to do a little research to find the best style for you.
Round: full cheeks and a rounded chin
Yes: Wide, Rectangular Frames
No: Round Frames or Colored Lenses (they exaggerate fullness)
Tips:
- Up-swept frames will add length to your face
- Choose sunglasses where the arm connects at the top of the lens frame. They will sit lower on your face and balance out the equal width and length of your face.
Heart-Shaped: a broader forehead with wide cheekbones and a small, pointed chin
Yes: Cat’s Eye, Rounded Edges
No: Over-Decorated Shades, Sharp Edges
Tips:
- Look for wide sunglass arms—they make the forehead look narrow
- Avoid sunglasses with a harsh bar across the eyebrows, it’ll draw too much attention to the top of your face
Oblong: face is longer than it is wide; narrow due to high cheekbones, a longer nose, or tall forehead; rectangular
Yes: Think oversized!
No: Thin or wiry frames
Tips:
- Jackie O shades look great on a long face.
- If you want aviators, consider buying a pair that are a bit wider than the classic style.
Oval: a balanced face; chin is slightly narrower than forehead and high cheekbones
You’re in luck! Really, pretty much anything goes. Your balanced features are perfect for almost any pair.
Square: broad forehead and square chin; proportional length and width
Yes: Round, Cat-Eye, Oval, Butterfly-Shaped
No: Angular Shapes
Tips:
- Look for sunglasses where the arm attaches at the top of the lens frame, rather than the middle. This will make the sunglasses sit lower on your face and balance your jaw.
General Tips:
- If your eyes are your best feature, consider getting lenses that are a bit lighter, even if just a shade. You will like how you look in your new shades a lot more if you can see your bold eyes!
- If your face is small, make sure your shades are the right size! A common mistake is for girls to wear Aviators that are too large; they make more than one size, so check it out!
Now that you’re an expert, you’ve got to check out some of our favorite shades for the season. Remember to be smart about shopping the trends; sunglasses are only glam if they make you look fabulous. The latest shade styles are not necessarily the styles that are best for you!
- Ray Ban Large Round Wayfarers ($155)
- Ralph Lauren Tortoise Shell Plastic Wayfayers ($250)
- Tory Burch Aviators ($200)
- Ray Ban Folding Wayfarer ($155)
- Tory Burch Hard-Rimmed Aviators ($149)
