They’re Baaaaack…
June 5, 2012

The “they” in question is, of course, the infamous Ewing clan of TV’s hit series Dallas. That’s right, folks, Dallas–the show that put Texas on the proverbial global “map”–is returning to the airwaves 21 years after its final episode aired in 1991.
Always fans of a good comeback, we’re anxiously awaiting the “new” Dallas premiere on June 13 on TNT. It’s all but guaranteed to be our new soapy summer guilty pleasure. But–full disclosure–we knew the show was coming back months ago because…the Dallas production office was briefly located right next door to our office!
Yes, we spent many an afternoon virtually starstruck after passing Patrick Duffy, Larry Hagman and Jesse Metcalfe (swoon!) in the hallway. We even got to watch from “backstage” as a scene was shot in our lobby, which had been (miraculously) transformed into a doctor’s office.
It’s important to note that the new series isn’t a “redo” of the original, but rather a continuation of the Ewing family’s scheming, conniving, and general drama-making, so we’re sure the pilot episode will fill in the blanks for those of you too young to have seen the original. But, for good measure, here’s a link to Fandango’s summary of the original series.

Cadillac en Vogue
February 27, 2012

While perusing our monthly stack of fashion mags, our hearts skipped a beat when we came across the “Modern Arts” spread in the March issue of Vogue, photographed by Mario Sorrenti and featuring Karlie Kloss.

Yes, the spread features heart-palpitation-inducing spring fashion, but it’s the glorious, colorful setting of the shoot that really made us smile: Amarillo’s very own Cadillac Ranch.

So You Say You Like Donuts, Huh?
August 14, 2011

But can you handle this?!
On our trip to San Marcos earlier this week, we made a point of stopping in Round Rock to see (read: gawk at) the “Texas” donut at Round Rock Donuts. You might think a “Texas” donut is one that’s frosted with the Texas state flag or even one that has a sugar cowboy boot on it.
Nope…it’s a massive 2 lb. donut that’s literally bigger than your head. Even if you have a big head. Just sayin’. This bad boy comes in glazed and chocolate-covered and costs $5.99–what a bargain.
The Vintagemobile
July 29, 2011

Here at ShopAcrossTexas, we just can’t help but love things that are a bit off-the-wall and cuckoo. Or a lot off-the-wall and cuckoo.
Case in point: The Vintagemobile. It’s a 1980s school bus that’s been painted green and converted into a mobile vintage boutique. What could be better?

Parked outside Hotel Belmont in Dallas (in the Smoke parking lot–that’s the Belmont’s simply amaze restaurant) each Saturday and Sunday from 11am-4pm, The Vintagemobile stocks such finds as 1950s cowboys boots, about a gajillion concert tees, feminine dresses, handbags, belts and knick-knacks of all sorts.
Happy cool-hunting.
