Once-in-a-lifetime Annular Solar Eclipse Visible in Texas this Sunday

So we have to admit, the most astronomically advanced we get is being able to name the few constellations we remember from seventh grade science class—and that’s when Pluto was still a planet. But even we’re not going to miss the first annular solar eclipse visible in the United States since 1994. Quick science recap: an annual solar eclipse is when the moon passes directly between the sun and the earth, creating a “ring of fire” around the moon. It won’t happen again in our lifetime, and due to the time of year, Midland and Lubbock are prime viewing locations for the annual portion of the eclipse—the rest of the U.S. will only see a partial eclipse.
Things will start to get exciting around 7:30pm on May 20, and will be visible until sunset. If you’re in Midland, head to the Marian Blakemore Planetarium to safely view the eclipse up close and personal through special telescopes. Those in Lubbock will have a similar gathering at Lubbock Lake Landmark put on by The South Plains Astronomy Club.
If you’re not in those cities, but still in the Texas Panhandle and the Permian Basin, you can head outside and safely view the annular eclipse while wearing a pair of these bad boys. So grab some friends and a bottle of wine, and enjoy an extra special sunset this Friday.
Grapevine Main Street Days
May 17, 2012

Even though the thermometer has been clocking in like it’s mid-June, summer hasn’t officially kicked off yet. Make it official at Grapevine Main Street Days this Friday through Saturday in Historic Downtown Grapevine. Not only will there be a carnival (and therefore all the best festival foods—corn dogs, funnel cakes, fried everything), but there will also be a bona fide Pizza Piazza. That’s right, nine Grapevine pizzerias are rolling out their dough for the weekend event that also features live entertainment on six stages. Sip on international wines and craft beers as you shop a variety of different vendors, or hop on a free shuttle to an offsite Grapevine winery tasting session. You can purchase daily tickets for $7, or come out on Friday from 10am-5pm, when admission is free to the public. For a full breakdown of the weekend, click here.

You’ll have three full days to snatch up the fresh collection, so head on over to the Houston Best Store today through Friday to see what we’ve all been waiting for.

Red in Fred Gets a Makeover
May 12, 2012

Our Red withdrawals are finally coming to an end! The Fredericksburg Best Store has been hard at work since Monday completely redesigning their store. We’re still expecting the same country couture style we’ve grown to love, but with a few more modern lines and—by the looks of it—a fresh color palette. Stop by sometime this weekend to check out the new look!
It Really is Everything But Water
May 11, 2012

We got a sneak peek at the new accessories cabana at Everything But Water in Preston Center today, and we’ve never been more ready for beach season. We’re willing to overlook the donuts we had for breakfast this morning in order to sport all of the fab new accessories we spotted. Plus, Brittany—the “official” unofficial bikini whisperer—will find you a suit with a great fit that leaves you feeling confident. Here are a few of our favorites from the store:
- DV by Dolce Vita Footwear
- Hat Attack Clutch with Neon
- L*Space Fringe Bikini
- Deux Lux Bags: Everything But Water Exclusive
Check it out for yourself tomorrow from 1-5pm and enjoy cocktails, light bites, tarot card readings and designer trunk shows from LEIGHELENA and HILA.
Cowtown Chow Down

Fort Worth is quickly making a name for itself as a food truck haven, opening two food truck parks in the past year. The first, Fort Worth Food Park, was an unabashed hit and the second is well on track to be just as successful. Aptly named Cowtown Chow Down, the second park caters to folks roaming between the Downtown Cultural District and the Fort Worth Stockyards and can accommodate up to 20 food trucks at a time, making it one of the largest selections of gourmet food truck dining options in the DFW area. This particular food truck park will feature both covered and indoor climate-controlled seating in addition to an arts and crafts corner and a space for live entertainment. There will be an official grand opening celebration at 10am on Thursday, May 17, but if you can’t make it, don’t worry. Cowtown Chow Down is open seven days a week and will feature these delectable vendors throughout the year.
